Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical – Neuro to join our team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality care to patients primarily with stroke and neurological conditions, including but not limited to epilepsy and subdural hematomas.

Key Responsibilities

• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care for diverse patient populations.
• Administer medication and perform treatments as prescribed.
• Monitor and interpret telemetry data, recognizing and managing dysrhythmias.
• Participate in the nursing orientation and team training programs.
• Manage patient care in a fast-paced environment with a 1:6 nurse-to-patient ratio.
• Float to other Medical Surgical/Telemetry areas as required, including COVID care units.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including 1 year of direct Medical Surgical experience.
• Must have completed at least 2 successful travel contracts; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Current certifications: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS.
• Preferred certification: ACLS.
• Skills in IV starts, telemetry, and dysrhythmia management are essential.

Schedule and Contract Details

• Contract lengths available for 13-26 weeks.
• Shifts are primarily 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15).
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend; any weekend shifts missed must be made up.
• Orientation for new hires is 36 hours.

Unit Details

• The unit primarily cares for stroke patients and has specialized resources for managing neurological conditions.
• Daily patient census is approximately 42; the unit has 43 available rooms/beds.
• Special procedures include operating within a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit, but training will be provided directly on the unit.
• Unit systems in use include PYXIS and EPIC for documentation and medication management.

Additional Notes

• EKG testing must be successfully completed prior to the start date.
• While block scheduling is preferred, it may not always be guaranteed.
• Consistent Med/Surg experience is a must for applicants.
