Registered Nurse (RN) – Med/Surg Telemetry

Shift Details

This position is for night shifts consisting of 4 twelve-hour shifts from 18:45 to 07:15. Candidates may accept either 36 or 48-hour shifts, with contracts ranging from 13 to 26 weeks. There is a requirement to work weekends, specifically every other weekend.

Role Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care for patients in a Med/Surg Telemetry setting.
• Monitor and manage patients’ telemetry needs, including the interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Administer medications, blood products, and perform central line blood draws.
• Manage various medical devices such as feeding tubes, PCA pumps, and chest tubes.
• Perform pre and post procedural care for hemodialysis, thoracic surgeries, and cardiac interventions.
• Implement wound care strategies, isolation precautions, and maintain proper infection control practices.
• Utilize Rapid Response and Code teams as necessary during patient emergencies.
• Engage in patient education and support activities to promote recovery and health management.
• Prepare for potential assignments to additional units as required during high demand periods.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a Med/Surg or Telemetry unit.
• Ability to interpret and manage dysrhythmias effectively.
• Experience with managing patients post-surgery, particularly in cardiac and bariatric cases, is preferred.
• Valid BLS and NIHSS certifications are required; ACLS certification is preferred.
• Previous charge or leadership experience is advantageous.
• Familiarity with electronic documentation systems is beneficial.

Additional Information

Candidates must be prepared to work during storm or hurricane events, and may be called upon during mass casualties or disasters. Contract staff will also be assigned to a centralized office as needed mid-contract.

Scrubs and Orientation

Scrubs should be navy blue or white. A 24-hour orientation will be provided to familiarize staff with unit protocols and procedures.
