Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) / Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)

Job Description

Under the direction of the RN Supervisor, the LPN Wing Supervisor carries out the medical plan of care and oversees the Nursing Assistants’ care of residents and students to ensure that resident care is executed in accordance with good nursing practice and applicable State and Federal regulations. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for working with and interacting with residents daily.

General Duties

• Utilize Electronic Health Records (EHR/EMR) for documentation.
• Administer and record medications, treatments, and monitor resident responses.
• Accurately transcribe physician orders and complete monthly summaries as scheduled.
• Review and update care plans to reflect residents’ current conditions.
• Notify the RN Supervisor of significant changes in residents’ conditions.
• Assist physicians with rounds, examinations, and treatments as needed.
• Collect, document, and arrange laboratory specimens for delivery.
• Supervise post-mortem procedures and notify necessary parties of resident deaths.
• Encourage resident participation in scheduled activities.
• Assist in the orientation of new nursing staff and evaluate nursing assistants under the RN Supervisor’s guidance.
• Complete incident reports accurately and follow safety protocols to maintain a healthy environment.
• Document weights and vital signs, following up on discrepancies as necessary.
• Ensure proper maintenance of treatment trays and supply inventories.
• Conduct team meetings and keep staff updated on changes in policies and procedures.
• Provide direct care for residents as needed.

Dress Code

• Uniforms: Any colored scrubs.
• Shoes: Clean, in good repair, and no open-toe sandals.
• Hair: Must be clean and neat.
• Sweaters: Cardigans or vests of any color are acceptable.
• Jewelry: No large or dangling earrings or necklaces; avoid heavy perfumes.
• Name tags must be worn daily.
• No short or jogging pants allowed.

Physical Demands

• Good physical health and mental alertness.
• Able to perform job functions and complete work assignments in a timely manner.
• Knowledge of good body mechanics.
• Must be free of communicable diseases.

Qualifications

• Nursing home experience is a plus.
• New graduates are welcome to apply.
• BLS certification required.
• COVID vaccination preferred but not required.
• Current license in relevant state or a temporary work permit required at the time of the interview.
• Knowledge of medical asepsis, body mechanics, personal care of residents, correct use and care of equipment, and thorough knowledge of nursing theory is preferred.
• Must maintain professionalism and exhibit dedication to meeting the needs of the elderly.
• Ability to follow written and verbal directives and possess good communication and observation skills is preferred.
