Infusion Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY

The Infusion Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing intravenous and injectable therapies. This position is crucial in delivering care for treatments including chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biologic agents, blood products, and various medications. The Infusion Nurse is responsible for monitoring patients for reactions, ensuring the safe administration of medications, and offering education and support throughout the treatment journey.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES

• Assess patient condition before, during, and after treatments.
• Review medical history, laboratory results, and treatment orders.
• Monitor vital signs and patient responses throughout treatment.
• Administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, and other IV and injectable medications.
• Access and manage vascular devices, including ports, PICC lines, and central lines.
• Follow strict protocols for the safe handling of hazardous drugs.
• Ensure accurate dosage calculations and infusion rates.
• Monitor patients for adverse reactions or complications, including allergic reactions and extravasation.
• Provide emergency intervention as necessary.
• Educate patients and families on treatment plans, potential side effects, and symptom management.
• Guide patients on infection prevention and self-care during treatment.
• Support patients emotionally throughout the therapy process.
• Collaborate with providers, pharmacists, and other healthcare professionals.
• Communicate patient concerns or changes in condition to healthcare providers.
• Document treatment administration, patient responses, and side effects in electronic medical records.
• Ensure compliance with regulatory standards and clinic policies.
• Perform other duties as requested.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin; candidates with active Compact Licensure must obtain a Wisconsin RN license within 90 days of the start date.
• Associate degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred).
• BLS certification required or to be obtained within 1 month of hire.
• ACLS certification required or to be obtained within 1 year of hire.
• Current ONS Chemotherapy Immunotherapy Provider Card or to be obtained within 6 months of hire.
