Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Tele Float

Job Summary

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical/Telemetry float nursing. The role involves care for patients within the Emergency Department Holding Unit, where patients await inpatient beds. Nurses in this position may encounter a variety of medical and surgical adult diagnoses and may also be required to handle PCU level patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care for patients waiting in the Emergency Department for inpatient bed assignments.
• Manage and monitor patient conditions using telemetry and other equipment.
• Float to various departments, including the Emergency Department and Medical Surgical areas, as required.
• Take care of MS/Tele cases and maintain a high standard of patient care.
• Participate in the management of dysrhythmias and other critical patient situations.
• Support rapid response teams and execute isolation precautions as necessary.
• Administer blood products and manage various nursing procedures, including colostomy care and feeding tube management.
• Utilize electronic health records systems for documentation and communication.

Required Skills and Certifications

• Minimum 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Previous traveler experience is required.
• Skills in MS/Tele, dysrhythmia management, telemetry monitoring, and various patient care procedures.
• Certifications: BLS and ACLS.

Preferred Skills and Certifications

• NIHSS certification and experience with IV insulin protocols.
• Experience in pre/post hemodialysis management and accessing ports.
• Knowledge of CVA management, traumatic brain injury protocols, and orthopedic trauma care.
• Competency in wound care, including the use of wound vacs.

Work Schedule and Requirements

• Shifts available are night shifts, with requirements of 36 or 48 hours per week.
• Contract staff must work every other weekend.
• All staff may be assigned to a Storm Team or Hurricane Team and may need to work during catastrophic events or disasters.
• A maximum of 7 days of RTO (Requested Time Off) is permitted.

Patient Demographics and Unit Details

• Patient population primarily includes adults with diverse medical/surgical diagnoses.
• This is a mixed unit with high-acuity patients requiring constant attention and care.
• Unit orientation will be 12 hours.

Equipment and Systems Used

• Standard equipment includes cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and additional monitoring systems.
• Documentation and communication will be managed through Pyxis, Epic, and SBAR systems.

Dress Code

Scrubs will be navy in color.
