Registered Nurse (RN) – NICU
Unit Description
The NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit) is a Level III high-risk facility equipped to care for critically ill newborns. The unit offers advanced resources, including neonatal transport services, and is staffed by a team of specialized practitioners, including OB/GYN, Family Practice, and Nurse Midwives. The NICU encompasses 27 beds, providing comprehensive care for various levels of neonatal health needs.
Job Summary
The Registered Nurse (RN) in the NICU will work rotating 12-hour shifts, alternating between day and night. Nurses will be responsible for the care of infants requiring specialized monitoring and support, including those on ventilation and central lines.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-quality nursing care to the neonatal population.
- Monitor and assess patients’ health status, documenting any changes.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed.
- Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Float to Mother-Baby or L&D units as needed to care for newborns.
- Participate in ongoing education and training, including a pass/fail exam during orientation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a NICU setting required.
- Must possess current BLS and NRP certifications.
- Strong communication and critical thinking skills are essential.
- Ability to multitask and work independently in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with ventilators and central lines is crucial.
Work Schedule
The RN position requires working 36 hours per week, including every third weekend and holiday. Two additional shifts within a 6-week period are expected.
Dress Code
Navy scrubs are required while on duty. Please note that artificial nails are prohibited in all patient care areas.

- All candidates must have a valid driver’s license, which will be used to determine proximity to the facility.
- Refusal to comply with the fingernail policy will result in termination of contract.
