Registered Nurse – Medical Surgical – Neuro

Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse specializing in Medical Surgical – Neuro to join our team. The selected candidate will care primarily for stroke patients, as well as those undergoing neurosurgery and managing various neuro diagnoses. This role requires critical thinking, exceptional patient care skills, and the ability to adapt to fast-paced environments.

Key Responsibilities

• Caring for stroke patients and managing neurosurgical cases.
• Monitoring, interpreting, and managing dysrhythmias.
• Performing IV starts and other essential nursing skills.
• Floating to other Medical Surgical/Tele units as needed, which may include COVID care units.
• Maintaining accurate documentation and patient records using healthcare software.
• Participating in patient assessments and treatment planning.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct experience in Medical Surgical nursing.
• Must have successfully completed at least 2 travel assignments prior to applying.
• Current certifications: BCLS, NIHSS; ACLS is preferred but not required.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to start.
• Experience in telemetry and the interpretation of dysrhythmias is essential.

Schedule

• Full-time, 12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15).
• Must work every other weekend, with potential floating required.
• 36 or 48-hour workweeks are acceptable.
• If RTO includes weekends, additional time will be added to the end of the contract to accommodate those dates.

Unit Information

• Patient ratio: 1:6.
• Daily census approximately 42, with 43 available rooms/beds.
• Unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit.
• Orientation provided for successful candidates: 36 hours.
• Scrubs: Navy.

Travel Requirements

• Travelers are required to make up shifts if calling out, particularly on scheduled weekends.
• Regular floating might be necessary based on unit needs.
