Histology Tech

Position Description

We are seeking a skilled Histology Technician to perform both routine and complex histologic procedures. The ideal candidate will be responsible for processing, embedding, and microtomy, as well as conducting various routine and special stains, including immunohistochemistry. This role requires a strong attention to detail and the ability to conduct quality control on completed slides.

Responsibilities

• Perform routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, and microtomy.
• Conduct routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry.
• Carry out quality control on completed slides.
• Identify and address problems that may affect diagnosis and results.
• Record observations from tests and document maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the lab.
• Comply with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

This position involves day shifts, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend requirements and on-call coverage on weekends every two months. There may be shifts that are subject to change based on departmental needs.

Qualifications

• Experience: A minimum of 5 years of full-time experience in histotechnology is required.
• Epic Beaker Experience: Familiarity with Epic Beaker is essential.
• Certifications:
  • BLS certification
  • HT(ASCP) certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) is required.
• Preferred Education: Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or other related scientific disciplines.
• Additional Experience: 5 years of experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains is preferred.

Miscellaneous

Candidates must be willing to be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June through November). All requested time off must be included at the time of submission and will be subject to approval based on department needs.
