Histology Technologist

Position Overview

The Histology Technologist is responsible for performing routine and complex histologic procedures, including processing, embedding, and microtomy. This role also encompasses the execution of routine and special stains, as well as immunohistochemistry.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform quality control on completed slides.
• Identify problems that may impact diagnosis and results.
• Record observations from tests and document maintenance of instruments and equipment used in the laboratory.
• Comply with established laboratory policies and procedures.

Work Schedule

This position requires working daytime hours, Monday through Friday, with occasional weekend requirements. Holiday rotation is also a part of this role.

On-Call Requirements

On-call coverage may be needed on weekends approximately every two months.

Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 5 years of full-time experience required.
• Certifications:
  • BLS certification is required.
  • HT(ASCP) certification by the American Society of Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP BOC) is required.
• Preferred:
  • Bachelor’s degree in histotechnology, biology, or a related scientific discipline.
  • 5 years of experience with immunohistochemistry (IHC) and special stains.

Additional Information

This position is located within a teaching hospital that operates as a Magnet facility and is a Level 1 trauma center.
All employees may be assigned to emergency response teams during hurricane season, which runs from June through November. Travelers should consider potential assignments during this timeframe.
