Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse with MedSurg experience to join our team. This position requires strong clinical skills and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, primarily focusing on the care of stroke and neurosurgery patients.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality nursing care to patients in a MedSurg/Telemetry unit.
• Monitor patient conditions and recognize changes in health status.
• Interpret telemetry and manage dysrhythmias.
• Perform IV starts and other essential nursing duties.
• Collaborate with the healthcare team to develop and execute patient care plans.
• Participate in patient education and discharge planning.
• May require floating to other MedSurg/Telemetry areas when necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, with at least 1 year of direct MedSurg experience.
• Must have at least 2 successful traveler contracts prior to application; first-time travelers will not be accepted.
• Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification is required.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification is required.
• Telemetry certification preferred.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification is preferred but not required.

Job Details

• Patient-to-nurse ratio of 1:6.
• Contracts available for 13 to 26 weeks.
• Shifts: 12-hour night shifts.
• Travelers are required to work every other weekend.
• RTO (requests for time off) must be submitted prior to booking and cannot be worked out onsite.
• Any call-offs or additional RTO may impact contract status.
• Unit orientation will consist of 36 hours.
• Must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.

Unit Information

• Daily patient census: 42.
• Room and bed availability: 43.
• Special focus on stroke, epilepsy, and other neuro diagnoses.
• Unit features a 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit (EMU).
• Uses PYXIS for medication management and EPIC for electronic documentation.
