Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical-Surgical/Telemetry
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Registered Nurse to join our Medical-Surgical/Telemetry team. The ideal candidate will provide high-quality patient care, particularly in the neurology specialty, with an emphasis on stroke and neurosurgery patients. This role requires commitment to exceptional patient service and collaboration with the healthcare team.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide nursing care to a diverse patient population, primarily focusing on stroke and neurology cases.
- Monitor patients’ vital signs and respond to changes in their condition, including the interpretation of telemetry data and dysrhythmias.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with established protocols.
- Participate in patient and family education to promote understanding of their health conditions and recovery plans.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Record and document patient information accurately using electronic health record systems.
- Adhere to organizational policies and procedures, including infection control measures.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience, including at least 1 year of direct Medical-Surgical experience.
- Previous travel nurse experience with a minimum of 2 successful contracts.
- Ability to start IVs, interpret telemetry, and manage dysrhythmias.
- Experience in Med/Surg neurology cases is preferred.
- Certifications required: BCLS, NIH, NIHSS. ACLS is preferred.
Work Schedule and Expectations
- Contracts available for 13-26 weeks with options for 36 or 48 hours per week.
- 12-hour night shifts from 6:45 PM to 7:15 AM.
- Travelers are expected to work every other weekend.
- Initial orientation period is 36 hours.
- Floating to other Medical-Surgical/Telemetry areas, including COVID care units, may be required.
Patient Focus
Our unit specializes in caring for stroke patients and manages various neuro diagnoses, such as epilepsy and subdural hematomas.
Unit Information
- Daily census of approximately 42 patients with a total of 43 beds.
- A 4-bed Epilepsy Monitoring Unit is part of the facility, with opportunities for training provided.
- Unit systems include PYXIS and EPIC for medication management and electronic documentation.
