Ultrasound Technologist

Job Summary

The Ultrasound Technologist is responsible for performing ultrasonic diagnostic procedures following accepted protocols as directed by physicians. This role focuses on producing high-quality images of internal body tissues to aid in the diagnosis and monitoring of various medical conditions, including heart disease, pregnancy, and cancer. The technologist also supervises and mentors ultrasound personnel and maintains ultrasound equipment.

Essential Functions

• Utilizes ultrasound equipment to emit high-frequency sound waves to specific areas of the patient’s body, capturing images that depict the composition, shape, motion of tissues, organs, vessels, and pathology.
• Summarizes, documents, verifies, and presents images and findings to physicians for diagnosis.
• Adheres to ultrasound diagnostic procedures, precautions, and standards.
• Provides direct patient care, including assessing patient conditions and cooperation.
• Positions patients and equipment, prepares patients for procedures, and continuously monitors and records vital signs.
• Observes patient reactions and signs of potential complications, intervening as necessary.
• Maintains accurate records, files, and billing information.
• Ensures the integrity of patient medical images and data while adhering to confidentiality guidelines and regulations, including HIPAA.

Qualifications

• Diploma or certificate from an accredited Ultrasound college or school.
• Certification and current registration by the American Registry of Diagnostic Medical Sonography (ARDMS) in Abdomen (AB), Obstetrics (OB), or Vascular (RVT); or by the Cardiovascular Credentialing International as a Registered Vascular Specialist (CCI-RVS); or by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) in Sonography (S) or (VS) within one year of hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from an approved vendor.
• At least two years of recent experience in the field.

Required Skills

• Experience with GE Logiq E9 and E10 ultrasound machines.
• Proficiency in performing breast scans, obstetric scans, and vascular studies, including DVT, upper and lower extremity studies, renal artery, carotid, abdomen, and pelvis examinations.
