Medical/Surgical Registered Nurse (RN)

Medical/Surgical Nurses provide direct and individualized nursing care to patients through the application of scientific nursing principles. The role includes a variety of responsibilities that are essential for ensuring patient care and recovery.

Key Responsibilities

• Consult and coordinate with healthcare team members to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
• Prepare and administer medications (orally, subcutaneously, through an IV) and accurately record them.
• Report adverse reactions to medications or treatments, adhering to established protocols.
• Educate patients on surgical procedures and post-treatment home care requirements.
• Record patients’ medical information and vital signs.
• Monitor and adjust specialized equipment, interpreting electronic displays as necessary.
• Initiate corrective action in response to adverse symptoms exhibited by patients.
• Provide bedside care for a wide variety of medical patients, including pre- and post-surgical cases.
• Initiate and execute patient education plans as prescribed by physicians.
• Change dressings, insert catheters, and start IVs as required.
• Prepare equipment and assist physicians during examinations and treatments.
• Respond to life-saving situations in accordance with nursing standards and protocols.
• Participate in discharge planning for patients.
• Utilize effective time management skills to prioritize tasks.
• Record all care information concisely, accurately, and in a timely manner.
• Perform additional duties as assigned, depending on the specific setting or situation.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience in a medical/surgical setting.
• Current ACLS, BLS, and PALS certifications, recognized through the American Heart Association.
• Active Registered Nurse (RN) license valid in the state of practice; multi-state RN license may also be acceptable.
