Emergency Room Nurse

Position Overview

This role is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Emergency Room care. The position requires expertise in providing care for a diverse patient demographic, ranging from neonates to geriatrics, in a fast-paced environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Float within service line/scope of practice as needed.
• Manage an average daily patient census of 76 in a 27-bed Emergency Department.
• Provide care for patients presenting with various chief complaints, including but not limited to:
  • Chest pain
  • Shortness of breath/respiratory issues
  • Mental health evaluations
  • OB/GYN emergencies
  • Sepsis
  • Stroke
  • Abdominal pain
  • Trauma
  • Cardiac arrest
• Perform special procedures and participate in unit activities, including:
  • Care and management of central lines
  • Blood product administration
  • Starting IVs and phlebotomy
  • Administration of continuous IV sedation and vasopressors
  • Procedural sedation
• Conduct assessments and interventions for patients with:
  • CVA, neuro-trauma, and traumatic brain injury
  • Orthopedic trauma
  • Respiratory issues requiring CPAP/BiPAP
  • Ventilated patients
  • Gunshot wounds and isolation precautions
• Participate in triage processes and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

• Must have a valid Michigan nursing license in hand.
• Minimum of 3 years of acute care experience in Emergency Room settings, with combined adult and pediatric experience.
• Patient-to-nurse ratios not exceeding 1:4-5 during all shifts.
• Experience with Epic and medication management systems (e.g., Pyxis).
• Certification in ACLS, BCLS, NIH, PALS, and TNCC is required.

Schedule

This position requires commitment to work every other weekend.

Unit Details

• 27-bed Emergency Department, classified as a Rural Hospital and Primary Stroke Center, seeking Trauma IV designation.
• Dedicated resources for mental health support and forensic nursing.
• 24/7 coverage by board-certified emergency department providers, charge nurses, triage nurses, and house supervisors.
• Equipped with two designated resuscitation rooms and four mental health preferred rooms.
