Registered Nurse (RN) – MS/Tele Float

Position Overview

This is a critical role within an Emergency Department Holding unit, where patients are located while waiting for inpatient beds. The unit cares for medical and surgical adult diagnoses, including high-acuity patients requiring telemetry monitoring and other specialized nursing care.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide patient care to adults with various medical and surgical diagnoses, including those with PCU level needs.
• Monitor patients on telemetry, interpreting dysrhythmias, and managing them effectively.
• Administer blood products and manage patients with colostomies and feeding tubes.
• Perform phlebotomy and manage peripheral and central lines, including PICC line care.
• Utilize rapid response teams effectively in emergent situations.
• Float to ED and MedSurg areas, providing comprehensive nursing care as needed.
• Participate in storm and hurricane team responsibilities, as well as respond to catastrophic events and mass casualty situations.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience required.
• Traveler experience is a must.
• Current certifications: BLS and ACLS required. NIHSS preferred.
• Skills in IV insulin protocols and pre/post hemodialysis management are preferred.
• Ability to provide care for traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and total joint replacements.

Job Details

• Patient Ratios: Target Ratios of 1:6 for MS/Tele or 1:4 for PCU level patients.
• Shifts: Night shifts, available in 36 or 48 hours per week.
• RTO: Maximum of 7 days allowed.
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend.
• Unit Orientation: 12 hours.

Special Equipment and Systems

This unit utilizes standard medical equipment, cardiac monitors, IV pumps, and electronic documentation systems including Pyxis and Epic.

Scrubs

Navy scrubs are required for this position.

Requirements

All candidates must successfully pass EKG testing prior to start for this specialty. Due to a high turnover rate, all applicants will be interviewed.
