Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Unit

Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Registered Nurse for a surgical unit. This role requires the ability to provide comprehensive patient care to individuals undergoing surgical procedures and those involved in trauma cases. The Registered Nurse will work in a fast-paced environment, focusing on patient safety and optimal recovery outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage a patient ratio of 1:6 for surgical and medical inpatient care.
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral line care.
• Interpret and manage dysrhythmias, utilizing Rapid Response Teams as necessary.
• Provide wound care, including the use of various dressings and wound vacs.
• Implement isolation precautions and non-invasive airway management as required.
• Assist in the management of surgical drains and nasal cannula applications.
• Participate actively in a Storm Team and/or Hurricane Team, responding to disasters and mass casualty situations when necessary.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a surgical unit.
• Travel experience is preferred, though not required.
• Must possess current certifications in BLS, ACLS, and NIH.
• Preferred skills include experience in titrating cardiac and vasoactive drips, as well as managing chest tubes using Emerson or Pleur-evac systems.

Special Procedures and Equipment

• Familiarity with a wide range of surgical procedures, including but not limited to cholecystectomy, appendectomy, and kidney stone removal.
• Experience with equipment such as wound vacs, chest tubes, NG tubes, and various types of drains.

Scheduling and Shift Details

• Shifts consist of 3 twelve-hour overnight shifts from 18:45 – 07:15.
• Every other weekend commitment is required.
• Contract length ranges from 13 to 26 weeks.
• Mandatory orientation includes 2 days of hospital orientation and 24 hours of floor training.

Attire

Uniforms must consist of all navy or navy bottoms with a white top.

Certification Requirement

All applicants must pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty.
