Registered Nurse (RN) – Surgical Unit

Position Overview

We are seeking a highly skilled Registered Nurse (RN) to join our dynamic surgical unit. The RN will provide exceptional patient care for individuals undergoing various surgical procedures and those involved in trauma cases. This position involves working nights and providing support for a diverse patient population with a wide range of diagnoses.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and interpret dysrhythmias and manage their treatment.
• Participate in the use of Rapid Response Teams as needed.
• Administer blood products and manage central and peripheral lines.
• Care for surgical drains and maintain non-invasive airway management.
• Implement isolation precautions and provide wound care.
• Engage in patient education and communication concerning their care.
• Adapt to float requirements to different units when necessary.
• Work collaboratively with healthcare teams during emergency events or disasters.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in a surgical unit.
• Preferred travel experience in nursing.
• Certifications required: BLS, ACLS, NIH.
• Ability to interpret and manage cardiac and vasoactive drips preferred.

Patient Population

The patient population includes individuals with a variety of conditions requiring surgical intervention or trauma management, including but not limited to:

• Cellulitis
• Appendicitis
• Cholecystitis
• Motor vehicle accidents
• Traumatic injuries
• Various cancers
• Bowel obstructions

Working Conditions

• Shift: 12-hour night shifts, with every other weekend commitment.
• Staff will participate in designated storm or disaster teams, as required.
• Required to report to work during catastrophic events or mass casualties.

Special Equipment

The surgical unit utilizes various equipment including:

• Wound Vac
• Chest tubes
• NG tubes/Corpak
• Drains (JP, Hemovac, Penrose)

Orientation and Training

New hires will undergo a two-day hospital orientation followed by 24 hours of floor training to ensure readiness for patient care.

Uniform Policy

Staff are required to wear navy scrubs or navy on the bottoms with a white top.
