Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated Registered Nurse (RN) with a focus on orthopedics and joints to join our dynamic team. This position requires expertise in medical/surgical and telemetry settings, and provides an opportunity to work in a fast-paced surgical environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to patients in a surgical unit specializing in orthopedic procedures.
• Monitor cardiac rhythms and respond effectively to dysrhythmias using established protocols.
• Administer IV therapy and perform phlebotomy with attention to patient safety and comfort.
• Manage respiratory needs, including the use of nasal cannulas and non-invasive airway techniques.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and utilize personal protective equipment (PPE) as required.

Patient Population

The patient demographic includes individuals undergoing orthopedic surgeries such as total knee replacements, total hip replacements, spinal fusions, and treatment for hip fractures and orthopedic trauma, alongside occasional medical overflow cases.

Work Environment

• Average Daily Census: 34
• Room Capacity: 48 beds
• Shift Schedule: 3 x 12-hour night shifts (18:45 – 07:15)
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• No On-call Requirement
• Float Requirement: Yes, floating to other units may occur based on census

Qualifications and Required Skills

• Minimum of 2 years of nursing experience specifically in medical/surgical orthopedics.
• First-time travelers are welcome to apply.
• Competence in cardiac monitoring including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Proficiency in IV therapy and phlebotomy.
• Knowledge of respiratory management techniques.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with total joint replacement and spinal surgery is a plus.

Additional Information

Orientation will be tailored to unit needs. Navy blue scrubs are required and not provided. Candidates will be expected to pass EKG testing prior to starting in this specialty. Candidate interview availability should be submitted promptly to facilitate the approval process.
