Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN)

We are seeking an experienced Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) Registered Nurse (RN) to join a dedicated healthcare team. This role involves caring for critically ill pediatric patients and requires a compassionate and skilled nursing professional.

Shift Information

• Shift Type: Nights
• Shift Length: 12 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 36 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: Every other weekend
• Holidays: 2 out of 3 holidays

Unit Overview

• Unit: PICU
• Number of Beds: 8 with an average census of 2
• Patient to Nurse Ratio: 1 to 2
• EMR System: Cerner
• Television Monitoring: Spacelab tele monitors; nurses must be able to interpret their own strips
• Ventilator Support: Yes
• Pediatric Hospitalist Intensivist: In-house 24/7
• Respiratory Therapy: Available 24/7
• Pharmacy Services: Available 24/7
• Nurse Aides: None

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill pediatric patients.
• Administer medications and manage intravenous (IV) therapy, including titratable drips such as insulin and sedative agents.
• Monitor patient vitals and response to treatments using advanced monitoring systems.
• Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to optimize patient outcomes.
• Float to general pediatrics and burn units for non-burn care of pediatric patients.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of PICU experience required.
• BLS (Basic Life Support) Certification required.
• PALS (Pediatric Advanced Life Support) Certification required.
• Familiarity with using Medfusion pumps for medication administration.
• Ability to provide care for a range of diagnoses including respiratory failure, diabetic ketoacidosis, and other critical conditions.

Orientation

• Orientation includes 2 shifts in PICU, 1 shift in pediatrics, and 1 shift in the burn unit (for pediatric non-burn care).
