Medical Technologist

Position Details

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Medical Technologist to join our team. The successful candidate will work in the Microbiology unit, performing essential lab tests and maintaining high-quality laboratory standards.

Shift Information

• Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM (Monday through Friday)
• Weekend Requirement: Rotating weekends and holidays, currently every third weekend
• On-call Requirement: No on-call duties

Essential Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing and perform routine and specialized laboratory tests.
• Conduct quality control and troubleshoot any errors or issues.
• Perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instruments.
• Communicate technical information effectively to both medical and non-medical personnel.
• Assist in training laboratory personnel on routine procedures.
• Participate in continuing education and keep up with laboratory techniques.
• Recognize and evaluate abnormal values, maintaining high standards of behavior in daily interactions.

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline.
• Certification: Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or an equivalent certification in a relevant specialty.
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years of experience is preferred, though first-time applicants are accepted.
• Highly Preferred Skills: Experience in Microbiology, Beaker software, culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing.
• Required Skills: Proficient in Gram stain reading, specimen plating, and rapid PCR setup.

Miscellaneous Information

• Travel Radius: Candidates must live within a 60-mile radius.
• Local Candidates: Accepted on a case-by-case basis at a reduced rate.
• Guaranteed Hours: The facility may call off 1 shift per 2 weeks.
