Medical Technologist

Position Overview

We are seeking a skilled Medical Technologist specializing in Microbiology to support high-quality laboratory testing. The role includes preparing specimens for testing, performing both routine and specialized laboratory tests, managing quality control, and troubleshooting equipment issues. The ideal candidate will have practical experience in microbiology and a strong understanding of laboratory procedures.

Shift Details

• Schedule: 5 days a week, 8-hour shifts from 12:00 PM to 8:30 PM (Monday to Friday)
• Weekend and Holiday Rotation Required: Currently every third weekend
• On-call Requirement: No on-call duty

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare and process specimens for a range of microbiological tests
• Conduct culture reading, identification, and susceptibility testing
• Perform Gram stain readings and plating
• Set up rapid molecular testing using BioFire Torch panels and Cepheid assays
• Troubleshoot laboratory instruments and maintain preventative measures
• Provide technical information to medical and lay personnel
• Assist in training laboratory personnel on routine procedures
• Participate in continuing education to maintain knowledge of laboratory standards

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline
• Certification: Certification as a Medical Technologist by ASCP BOC or equivalent specialty lab certification
• Experience: Minimum of 3 years experience preferred, with experience in Microbiology and related laboratory practices
• Skills Required:
  • Proficiency in Gram stain reading, plating, and rapid PCR setup
  • Experience with culture reading and identification
  • Ability to execute susceptibility testing accurately
