Registered Nurse – Labor and Delivery
Summary
The competent Nurse, with experience in a relevant clinical setting, practices independently and demonstrates a strong awareness of all aspects of various situations. This role involves providing both routine and complex care while maintaining focus on long-range goals and plans. The Nurse continues to develop the ability to cope with and manage clinical contingencies and makes appropriate assignments and delegations to other care providers to effectively manage patient care.
Responsibilities
- Meets expectations of applicable competencies in leadership.
- Provides nursing care in accordance with the nursing process, including assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation for assigned patients.
- Addreses complex psychological, emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families in alignment with level of practice.
- Administers medications and treatments using appropriate protocols, while monitoring for side effects and treatment effectiveness.
- Documents patient history, symptoms, medications, and care provided.
- Assesses learning needs and provides education to patients, family members, and caregivers, identifying relevant issues and resources.
Job Requirements
Education/Skills
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing is preferred.
Experience
- A minimum of 1 year of experience in the relevant nursing specialty is preferred.
Licenses, Registrations, or Certifications
- Current certification from AWHONN Intermediate or NCC Electronic Fetal Monitoring (C-EFM) is required.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is required (AHA only).
- Current Neonatal Resuscitation Program (NRP) certification is required.
- Current Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification is required (AHA only).
- Registered Nurse (RN) License in the state of Texas or compact is required.
Position Requirements
Education/Skills
- All newly hired experienced RNs must complete New Nurses Orientation within the first 30 days of hire.
- New hires will be precepted by a designated trained staff member, and initial onboarding requirements will be validated through successful completion of designated competency validation.
- Completion of all annual competency verification requirements is necessary.
Experience
- Completion of a Perinatal RN Residency, or recent experience in a Perinatal setting is preferred.
Work Schedule
This position operates on a night shift schedule, with hours from 7 PM to 7 AM.
