Registered Nurse (RN) – Medical/Surgical Telemetry

Job Overview

This position is for a Registered Nurse specializing in Medical/Surgical Telemetry with a focus on orthopedics and joints. The role involves providing high-quality patient care in a surgical unit that primarily handles orthopedic surgeries, with occasional medical overflow.

Responsibilities

• Provide patient care in a surgical setting, specifically for orthopedic procedures including total joint replacements and spinal surgeries.
• Conduct cardiac monitoring, including interpretation and management of dysrhythmias.
• Administer IV therapy and phlebotomy, ensuring proper peripheral line care and management.
• Utilize respiratory skills for nasal cannula and non-invasive airway management.
• Adhere to isolation precautions and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Collaborate with rapid response teams and code teams as necessary.
• Engage in patient assessment and documentation using unit-specific systems such as EPIC.

Qualifications

• Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical/Surgical Orthopedic nursing required.
• First-time travelers are accepted.
• Experience in a telemetry setting is mandatory.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required.
• Skills in handling special equipment, including wound vacuums and drains, are preferred.
• Orthopedic skills in total joint replacement and spinal surgery are highly desirable.

Work Details

• Average daily patient census is 34, with a total of 48 available rooms/beds.
• Shift: 3 x 12-hour nights (18:45 – 07:15).
• No call requirement, but float may be required based on unit needs.
• Weekend work required every other week.
• Unit orientation is conducted as per unit needs.
• Navy blue scrubs are required and not provided.
