Pediatric Physical Therapist
Job Summary:
Evaluates patients in relation to a variety of therapeutic interventions aimed at the rehabilitation of physical and developmental disorders.
Essential Duties:
- Possesses detailed knowledge of physical therapy practices, including rationale and data interpretation.
- Employs basic computer skills for documentation and communication.
- Understands and adheres to the regulations specific to the care setting.
- Evaluates and treats patients using a variety of therapeutic interventions for physical function and developmental disorders.
- Demonstrates knowledge of growth and development principles across the lifespan of patients served.
- Implements a comprehensive rehabilitation program that addresses the patient’s physical, psychosocial, and environmental needs.
- Promotes self-determination in patients and caregivers by aiding in the use of external resources to achieve maximum independence.
- Coordinates with various healthcare disciplines or services involved in patient care.
- Oversees discharge goals established during the initial evaluation and throughout the care process.
- Acts as a patient advocate.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Work settings may include inpatient, outpatient, long-term care, community-based care, and home health.
Pediatric Physical Therapist Specific Duties:
- Evaluates and treats infants, children, and adolescents for various health conditions while addressing motor development, strength, range of motion, endurance, balance, coordination, and gait.
- Conducts interviews with children and families to diagnose movement disorders through physical examination.
- Evaluates and treats patients aged 18 years and older when necessary.
- Floats to adult units as needed when pediatric patient census fluctuates.
- Provides care in inpatient and inpatient emergency department settings.
Required Skills & Experience:
- Must possess experience in both inpatient and outpatient settings.
- Requires at least one year of Pediatric Physical Therapy experience.
- Ability to work as part of a team and adapt to a fast-paced environment.
- At least one previous travel assignment of 13 weeks is required.
- A minimum of two years of current experience in the specialty is required.
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience with EPIC is preferred; training will be provided on-site.
Education:
- Required Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Physical Therapy.
- Preferred Education: Doctorate in Physical Therapy.
Certifications & Licensure:
- Required: New Mexico PT License.
- Required: BLS certification from an accredited provider such as the American Heart Association, American Health and Safety, or American Red Cross.
Schedule:
Monday through Friday, 8-hour days.
