ICU Registered Nurse (RN)
Job Summary
An opportunity exists for a qualified ICU Registered Nurse to join a dynamic float pool team, providing high-quality care in intensive care settings. The role involves working with critically ill patients across various ICU units, ensuring adherence to best practices and protocols.
Job Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients in the ICU, including medical, surgical, trauma, cardiothoracic, and neuro-specific units.
- Float among ICU areas and MedSurg/Telemetry units, functioning independently in various assignments as required.
- Administer medications, monitor vital signs, and manage critical drips and respiratory support equipment.
- Complete SIMs Lab requirements, including Foley catheter insertion and central line dressing changes, with a focus on maintaining sterile techniques.
- Participate in unit huddles and communicate effectively with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
- Perform patient assessments and document findings accurately, including a two-person quality skin assessment within the first four hours of each shift.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in an ICU setting, with Level 1 trauma center experience preferred.
- Current certifications: BLS, ACLS required; NIHSS preferred but not mandatory.
- Competence in handling various CRITICAL drips and proficiency in reading telemetry strips.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team.
- Must be adaptable and willing to float to different units, understanding the nature of floating assignments.
Shift Details
- 12-hour shifts, primarily days, with a requirement for weekend shifts (4 shifts in 4 weeks).
- Holidays will be assigned based on unit needs and must be approved by management.
- Orientation includes a minimum of 2 shifts; a third shift may be required based on individual needs.
Additional Information
The ICU Float Pool encompasses various units, including medical/surgical, trauma, cardiothoracic, and neuro-ICU, with expected nurse-to-patient ratios averaging 1:2 in critical care areas.
Effective communication and the ability to maintain a sterile field and perform procedures safely are paramount in this role. Prospective candidates must understand these expectations and demonstrate the necessary competencies during the hiring process.
