ICU Registered Nurse (RN)

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced ICU Registered Nurse to join our dynamic healthcare team. The ideal candidate will possess strong critical care skills and be prepared to provide exceptional patient care in a combined ICU and Medical Surgical unit.

Unit Information

• ICU Capacity: 4 ICU beds, 19 Medical beds with the potential to convert additional beds as needed.
• Nurse Ratios:
  • Medical-Surgical: 1:5
  • Pediatrics (ages 4-17): 1:4
  • PCU: 1:3-4
  • ICU: 1:1 or 1:2 (fixed ratio)
• Required Certifications: BLS, ACLS, NIHSS, PALS or ENPC
• Common Diagnoses: Patients on vents, respiratory distress, medical cases, orthopedic surgeries, abdominal surgeries, stable stroke patients with TPA, STEMIs not requiring intervention, hysterectomies, and infectious diseases.

Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to critically ill patients in the ICU and take on Medical Surgical assignments as needed.
• Administer and titrate critical drips, including sedation, vasoactive medications, and paralytics.
• Engage in patient monitoring and collaborate with the healthcare team for patient management.
• Participate in unit-wide support and management initiatives as necessary.

Requirements

• Minimum of 2 years of ICU experience with proficiency in handling Medical Surgical assignments.
• Knowledge in ventilator management is essential.
• Ability to interpret telemetry and understand complex cardiac rhythms.
• Pediatric experience is preferred but not required.

Support and Resources

• A Charge Nurse or Hospital Resource Nurse available on every shift.
• Access to in-house Respiratory Therapy and virtual monitoring technology.
• CNA support available during shifts (usually 2 CNAs per shift).

Scheduling

• Shifts are 12 hours, with opportunities for set schedules and potentially block scheduling.
• Weekend and holiday rotations required as part of unit commitment.
• Orientation is provided over 2-6 shifts based on comfort level.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong clinical skills, the ability to work autonomously, and a willingness to seek assistance when needed. This role encompasses both ICU and Medical Surgical responsibilities, providing a diverse and enriching nursing experience.
