Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA)

Position Overview

The Registered Nurse First Assistant (RNFA) plays a critical role in the operating room by providing surgical assistance under the supervision of the surgeon, while collaborating with other healthcare team members to ensure optimal patient care.

Shift Information

• Type: Day Shift
• Shift Length: 8 hours
• Guaranteed Hours: 40 hours per week
• Weekend Requirement: One weekend of call per month
• Call Requirement: One call night per week
• Holidays: Required to work only in emergencies

Operating Room Details

• Number of Operating Room Suites: 7
• Average Cases per Day: 15-20
• Common Case Types: High volume of orthopedic surgeries (including total joints), general, gynecological, pediatric, and eye surgeries. Cardiac cases may be involved but not for traveling staff.
• Electronic Medical Record System: Cerner Surginet

Requirements and Qualifications

• Experience: Minimum of 2 years in the operating room.
• Certifications:
  • ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support)
  • BLS (Basic Life Support)
• Travel experience is preferred.

Additional Information

• Scrubbing: While scrubbing is preferred, it is not mandatory for RN’s.
• Orientation and Training: Floor-specific orientation will be tailored based on skillset.
• Floating: No floating to other departments required.
• Call Response Time: 30 minutes
• 24/7 RT (Respiratory Therapy): Available
• Pharmacy Availability: Not available 24/7; after-hours services available through Marian after 10 PM.
• Scrub Colors: Provided by the facility.
