Medical Lab Technician

Position Overview

The Medical Lab Technician plays a crucial role in supporting high-quality laboratory testing in a clinical environment. This position is responsible for preparing specimens, performing routine and specialized laboratory tests, maintaining quality control, and troubleshooting both errors and laboratory instruments.

Schedule

• Shift: Nights, 9:00 PM to 7:30 AM
• Schedule: 7 on / 7 off rotation, with weekends and holidays required

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare specimens for testing
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory tests
• Conduct quality control and troubleshoot errors
• Monitor and maintain laboratory instruments
• Communicate technical information to both medical and non-medical personnel
• Assist in training laboratory personnel on routine procedures
• Participate in continuing education initiatives
• Recognize and evaluate normal and abnormal lab values
• Model professional standards of behavior in daily interactions

Qualifications

• Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology or a relevant medical or scientific discipline
• Certification: Certification as a Medical Laboratory Technician by ASCP BOC or equivalent or relevant specialty lab certification
• Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience preferred; experience in Hematology and/or Chemistry highly preferred

Miscellaneous

• Local candidates will be considered on a case-by-case basis
• This position does not require on-call duties
• Travelers should be aware of possible assignments to emergency response teams during hurricane season (June through November)
